Fans and fighters shared their support for Marvin Vettori after the UFC middleweight underwent surgery.

On April 6, Vettori was supposed to fight Brendan Allen in the UFC Vegas 90 main event. Unfortunately, 'The Italian Dream' suffered an injury during his training camp and was forced to pull out, leading to Chris Curtis stepping in on short notice and losing a split decision against Allen.

Although, Vettori hasn't revealed the specifics of his injury, he confirmed of undergoing a surgery by posting a photo on Instagram of him in a hospital bed with the following caption:

"Everything that happens is meant to build you. Just onward and upward from now"

Fans and fighters took to the Instagram comment section and wished him a speedy recovery from the unknown surgery:

Marvin Vettori last fought in June 2023 and endured a brutal unanimous decision loss against Jared Cannonier. In fact, Cannonier destroyed a UFC record for the most significant strikes landed by a middleweight (249). Following the disappointing defeat, Vettori holds a promotional record of 9-5-1.

Where does Marvin Vettori stand in the UFC middleweight division?

Marvin Vettori is the number six-ranked fighter in the UFC middleweight division. With that said, the ranking system can get complicated when it comes to title shots, as short-notice opportunities and star power can play a significant factor.

Later this year, Dricus du Plessis is expected to defend his middleweight throne against Israel Adesanya. Meanwhile, Khamzat Chimaev and Robert Whittaker will likely determine the next challenger when they meet on June 22 in Saudi Arabia.

Therefore, Vettori's injury has solidified his temporary exit from the middleweight title picture. Once he returns, the 30-year-old could need two or three more wins before another crack at UFC gold depending on the ranking of his next opponent.

Depending on his recovery timeline, a re-scheduled bout between Vettori and Brendan Allen would be intriguing considering their intense rivalry.
