Jon Jones' upcoming title fight against former UFC two-time heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic might not have a confirmed date yet. However, the matchup seems to be losing its credibility considering that interim champion Tom Aspinall's case for a matchup against Jones seems to be the one that sparks the enthusiasm of fight fans.

Aspinall successfully defended his interim heavyweight title with a 60-second knockout victory over Curtis Blaydes in the co-main event of UFC 304. He seized the moment to issue a challenge for a title unification bout with Jones, who defeated Ciryl Gane at UFC 285 to win the vacant UFC heavyweight strap.

Nevertheless, Jones, as well as UFC CEO Dana White seem unwaveringly committed towards securing the Miocic fight next. A fan reacted to the recent developments on one of Jones' posts on Instagram, claiming that Aspinall doesn't deserve a fight against him. The fan wrote:

"Don't fight Tom champ. He doesn't deserve a fight with you. Just beat Stipe and retire. You're already the GOAT."

While Jones didn't react to the comment in length, he dropped a wink emoji as a succinct reply to the fan. Meanwhile, another fan sought to elicit a reaction from 'Bones' by claiming that he isn't the champion. Jones simply replied:

"I’ve literally been a champion my whole career."

Renato Moicano picks Tom Aspinall to win against Jon Jones in a potential fight

A large section of the MMA community and several fighters have claimed that they want to witness a fight between UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones and interim titleholder Tom Aspinall.

While the UFC will most likely secure a date for Jones' return against Stipe Miocic towards the end of the year, Dana White has also asserted that Aspinall will fight the winner of the upcoming clash. In a recent episode of the Show Me The Money podcast, Moicano was asked to make a pick between Jones and Aspinall in a life-or-death situation. He replied:

“Jon Jones is not in his prime anymore. You remember Dominick Reyes? He was starching him. Thiago Santos was starching him, at the end of his career, he was not the same. Jon Jones, 23 years old knocking Shogun out. Aspinall is right now what Jon Jones used to be.”
