Jon Jones calls bluff on Daniel Cormier's excuse for muted reaction - "Couldn't even pretend to smile"

Jon Jones announced his return in emphatic fashion at UFC 285, submitting Ciryl Gane in the first round to become the heavyweight champion. But the quick finish did not draw the expected reactions from normally animated color commentator Daniel Cormier.

Cormier, who shared a heated rivalry with Jones for many years, appeared confused as to what had happened. He was forced to defend his reaction on Twitter following UFC 285 after receiving backlash from fans. 'DC' stated that from his vantage point, he could not see that the guillotine submission had been secured.

But Jon Jones appears to believe that Daniel Cormier was feigning ignorance at the time, and took to Twitter to call out his former rival:

"My man couldn’t even pretend to smile, it was pretty funny. Asking what happened, an experience former champion and analyst suddenly not being able to identify a guillotine."

Cormier is a former two-division UFC champion and was recently inducted into the promotion's Hall of Fame. It seems that 'Bones' is skeptical that someone with as much knowledge as 'DC' could be confused about the nature of Jones' victory.

Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier shared a cordial online exchange prior to UFC 285. The now-heavyweight champion gave Cormier 'permission' to call his fight against Ciryl Gane, and Cormier's response hinted at the pair laying their rivalry to bed.

However, following Jones' recent tweet directed at 'DC', bad blood may rise to the surface once again.

Daniel Cormier believes Stipe Miocic will provide Jon Jones with a real test at heavyweight

Jon Jones will likely face Stipe Miocic for the heavyweight title next in the headliner of International Fight Week in July, as per UFC president Dana White.

Jones accumulated no damage on his way to the title against Ciryl Gane, submitting his opponent in the first round.

Daniel Cormier, a UFC commentator and analyst, believes that Miocic will provide 'Bones' with a far tougher test than Gane. Miocic is regarded by many as the greatest heavyweight of all time, and has the most heavyweight title defenses in UFC history.

'DC' stated that Miocic's wrestling credentials will allow him to compete with Jon Jones on the ground. During a recent episode of DC & RC, Cormier said:

"I believe Stipe's championship experience will show itself in the fight [against Jones]... I also believe that Stipe Miocic's NCAA wrestling pedigree will help him in the fight. Stipe can box, Stipe can wrestle and Stipe also has championship experiene... In those dark moments that we spoke about Ciryl not necessarily being prepared for 'cause he didn't have the background, Miocic has that."
