"Look at this fat guy"– Islam Makhachev pokes fun at teammate and UFC Hall-of-Famer Daniel Cormier for his guest appearance in the WWE

Following Daniel Cormier's special guest referee appearance at WWE Extreme Rules, Islam Makhachev has made fun of his friend and training partner with a barrage of insults.

The Dagestani is currently in Abu Dhabi preparing to fight for the vacant lightweight title on Saturday and could cement himself in history by getting his hand raised at UFC 280. His fight against Charles Oliveira has all the potential to become the greatest matchup in the illustrious 155lbs division history.

While discussing Daniel Cormier's unforgettable appearance at WWE Extreme Rules, Islam Makhachev insisted that the UFC Hall-of-Famer "cannot compete anymore" after seeing him don the referee gear:

"Look at this fat guy. He cannot compete anymore, he is a referee right now. He's a smart guy, you don't have to be [in] good shape for come back, he just wants to be [a] referee, do some easy stuff. He don't want to no more cut [weight], he wants to eat all day. Burgers, chips, and this guy's so smart."

Makhachev and 'DC' are long-term training partners and have spent years together working on their craft under the guidance of Javier Mendez, the head coach at the American Kickboxing Academy.

The 31-year-old hopes to bring back gold and contribute to the gym's championship cabinet. Alongside Cormier, the team has had Khabib Nurmagomedov, Cain Velasquez, and Luke Rockhold hold UFC titles while flying the flag for AKA.

Daniel Cormier's WWE appearance

Having held a life-long passion for professional wrestling, it was a dream come true for Daniel Cormier when he was invited to be a special guest referee for a huge matchup in the company.

The heavyweight oversaw the action as former two-time WWE champion Seth Rollins took on UFC alumni Matt Riddle in a Fight Pit clash. Riddle walked away the victor and the former Olympic wrestler-turned-referee was congratulated for the role he played throughout the bout.

Following on from his performance in the ring, Cormier openly stated that he's ready and willing to step up and feature in more WWE events in the future. However, he admitted that he'd like to get back in shape. Maybe that ought to pacify his lightweight teammate.
