When did Joseph Benavidez retire from MMA?

Between 2008 and 2010, Joseph Benavidez solidified himself as a pioneer of MMA during his time with World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC). During that time, Benavidez endured a memorable two-fight series with former UFC champion Dominick Cruz, with the latter winning both meetings.

In 2011, Benavidez began his UFC tenure which would include twenty-one fights to help the flyweight division become what it is today. The Texas-born legend's best run was in 2014-2016 when he won six consecutive Octagon appearances, including a split decision against Henry Cejudo.

Benavidez's professional MMA career ended with three consecutive losses against Deiveson Figueiredo x2 and Askar Askarov. Although he retired in 2021 without becoming a UFC champion, Benavidez will always be remembered by longtime fans for his contributions to the sport.
