Fans have reacted to Daniel Cormier apologizing for his negative comments toward Jon Jones' fiancee during their intense rivalry.

Between 2015 and 2017, Cormier and Jones fought twice in one of the most heated rivalries in combat sports history. 'Bones' would win both fights, one by unanimous decision and the other by third-round knockout, with the latter being overturned into a no-contest due to a failed drug test.

The UFC legends seemingly haven't fully made amends since then, despite some cordial interactions every once in a while.

Earlier this week, Cormier was featured on the UFC 305 weigh-in show with Dominick Cruz and Alexander Volkanovski. The fighters were discussing 'uncomfortable rivalries' when 'DC' talked about how he would post disrespectful comments on social media about Jones and his fiancee.

Cruz convinced Cormier to apologize for his past comments, leading to the following quote from the former UFC heavyweight champion:

"I lost myself in that rivalry because he brought a side of me that I didn't really have. I just remember being in his comments, he's in my comments, I'm in his comments insulting his wife. It was so bad. I was thinking once like this is really bad, this is really bad... She didn't do anything. I'm sorry Jon Jones' wife. I said it, I'm sorry Jon Jones' wife."

Daniel Cormier's quote was re-posted on X, with fans sharing the following reactions in the comments section:

"He’s still mad."
"Cruz with the instigation and double entendre masterclass. My GOAT."
"Dominic Cruz can't help but make things awkward."
"To be fair, Jon has never apologized to her either."

When is Jon Jones expected to fight next?

In March 2023, Jon Jones defeated Ciryl Gane by first-round submission for the vacant UFC heavyweight title. Later that year, Jones was scheduled to defend his throne for the first time against Stipe Miocic but he pulled out due to a torn pectoral muscle.

UFC CEO Dana White has confirmed Jones will defend his title against Miocic in his next fight. Although not yet confirmed by the UFC, 'Bones' is expected to return in November or December for a pay-per-view main event.

Meanwhile, interim champion Tom Aspinall waits for his opportunity to gain undisputed gold.
