Dan Hooker is throwing his name in the hat as MMA fans are collectively holding their breaths for Dustin Poirier's next opponent. The former interim UFC lightweight champ is now in the final stretch of his career and is understood to be looking for a memorable matchup next.

With the kind of wars Poirier has had in his years inside the octagon, you'd know we'll have another classic in our hands. He just needs to find the perfect dance partner for it.

Just yesterday, 'The Diamond' posted a cryptic tweet, teasing a possible third dance with fellow interim UFC lightweight champ Justin Gaethje:

"Trilogy?"

As a reply to this, 'The Hangman' also posted a cryptic tweet, subtly suggesting that he does a repeat of their classic 2020 brawl. Mirroring Poirier's tweet, Dan Hooker also posted just one word:

"Rematch."

Fans are reacting to this in various ways, with @ApexFightClub saying:

"got to be that classic Dustin fight 🤑🤑"

Meanwhile, @faulin already knew what Hooker was on about, saying:

"One of the best fights in UFC history? @DustinPoirier Let’s do it. Excellent rematch"

Looking back at Dan Hooker vs. Dustin Poirier in 2020

Dan Hooker and Dustin Poirier put on one of the greatest fights of the pandemic era in the UFC. Coming off his failed attempt at UFC gold against Khabib Nurmagomedov, Poirier was a man on a mission to get back on the winning column and send a message that he's not done yet. As for Hooker, he was on a three-fight winning streak, looking for a fourth victory to perhaps secure his first world title shot.

The two met in the main event of UFC Vegas 4 in June 2020. Inside a near-empty UFC Apex facility in Las Vegas, 'The Diamond' and 'The Hangman' didn't waste any time coming at each other with everything they got.

Very little grappling was seen in the fight as both men elected to just stand and bang for most of the exchanges. And when it did go to the ground, the two were dead even as they both attacked with submissions and dominant ground-and-pound.

On the feet, it looked like they were wearing invisible protective gear as the way Poirier and Hooker were throwing in the pocket, they seemed like they had no regard for their well-being.

In the end, Poirier won the close bout via a unanimous decision, with both his and Hooker's face looking like they went through bad plastic surgeries.
