Dustin Poirier is set to face Michael Chandler in an electrifying lightweight bout on the main card of UFC 281 at Madison Square Garden, New York. Dustin Poirier will make his 27th appearance in the organization, while Michael Chandler will be making his fifth.

On some cards, a fight like this would have been the event's headliner. The lightweight bout will precede the two title fights scheduled for November12.

'The Diamond' stands at 5'9" (175 cm) and has a reach of 72 inches. He last weighed in at 154 pounds in his fight against former champion Charles 'Do Bronx' Oliveira. He lost the fight via submission due to a rear-naked choke in the third round.

Dustin Poirier made his UFC debut against Josh Grispi at UFC 125, where he won via unanimous decision. He is the No. 2-ranked fighter on the UFC's lightweight roster. He has a promotional record of 20-6-1 and an overall MMA slate of 28-7-1.

'Iron' Michael Chandler, meanwhile, stands at 5'6" (169 cm) and has a reach of 71 inches. He last weighed in at 156 pounds against Tony Ferguson at UFC 274. He knocked 'El Cucuy' out in the second round with a vicious front kick.

Chandler had an extensive career in Strikeforce and Bellator before making his UFC debut against Dan Hooker at 257. In his debut, he finished the New Zealander in the first round.

He is currently ranked No. 5 in the UFC lightweight division. He has a UFC record of 2-2 and an overall MMA ledger of 23-7.


Dustin Poirier vs. Michael Chandler: Which lightweight will emerge victorious?

On paper, the fight between Dustin Poirier and Michael Chandler shouldn't go the distance. Both fighters have knockout ability and like to stand in the pocket and trade.

'The Diamond' has 15 career finishes via knockout and six submission victories. 'Iron' Michael Chandler, on the other hand, has 11 wins by knockout and seven submission victories.

Chandler has a pressure-heavy style and likes to stalk his opponents while looking for the kill-shot. Poirier, on the other hand, has excellent combinations in the pocket with effective counter-striking.

Both fighters have strong grappling credentials. Dustin Poirier has a black belt in jiu-jitsu under Tim Credeur, whereas Chandler is an NCAA Division-1 wrestler.

Both fighters clearly don't like each other. Poirier was initially annoyed by the fact that Chandler got a title shot in the UFC after just one fight. He also appeared to initiate a spat on social media with Chandler, calling him "Michael Chinler." The two even had an in-person altercation at UFC 276.

This fight has the potential to become the Fight of the Night at UFC 281. According to OddsChecker, Poirier is the -200 favorite going into the fight against Chandler, who is the +170 underdog.
