While Dustin Poirier and Colby Covington have never faced each other in the octagon and fight in separate weight divisions, they evidently have bad blood. Notably, they used to be teammates at American Top Team in Florida before Covington was ousted from the gym.

Ever since switching gyms, 'Chaos' has dialed up his trash talk against 'The Diamond'. In a recent interview, he claimed that Poirier walked out of a restaurant after crossing paths with him.

Covington told Submission Radio:

"I crossed paths with him about three months ago at NYY Steakhouse in Coconut Creek Casino... I looked at him eye-to-eye and said, 'What's up, bitch, it's on-site? Say something. Do something.' And he just walked out of the restaurant because he knows... You can talk big to the media, you can talk big in front of the camera, but when you are in someone's face and when you feel their energy and you know what they are capable of that's when it's a different story." Poirier, however, remembers the run-in differently. Talking to MMA Junkie, the former interim lightweight champion dispelled Covington's narrative, saying:

"Na bro, the dude is such a liar... I'm not even going to give him the air time. We ran into each other, yeah, that's true. But the way he said it went down, is completely not true."

When Colby Covington called Dustin Poirier an "egomaniac"

Colby Covington believes that Dustin Poirier hates seeing others outshine him in terms of accomplishments and behaves poorly with his sparring partners.

During a 2022 interview with The Schmo, 'Chaos' claimed that the lightweight veteran doesn't take fair criticism and even refused to aid him in training camps when they were teammates at ATT. Elaborating on how his beef with 'The Diamond' started, Covington said:

"Dustin is the biggest egomaniac in the entire world... Anybody that has trained with him, been with him day in and day out like I have for years on end would know how he truly is. The way he treats people in the gym, his ego. He just wants to be the big fish in the pond... We were supposed to have a training camp together and then... He just f*****g turned his back on me and started talking shit... And [started to] give me bad look in the gym... Dustin, you are a f*****g coward."
