Dustin Poirier remains the last man to face Conor McGregor in the octagon, as the latter has not returned since breaking his leg in 2021. 'The Diamond' recently revealed that the two nearly ran into each other in Las Vegas and that there would have been a big problem as the rivalry between them is not over.
Speaking to Ariel Helwani on his new self-titled show, the No.4-ranked lightweight claimed:
"Conor was behind me, apparently, and my agent was walking behind me and he grabs me. So Conor might've saw the back of my head. I don't know. I didn't see him. He grabs my shoulder and says, 'go this way, to the right, to the right'. We start walking to the right. I'm like, 'the booth is right there'. We start walking to the right and then once we get clear of everybody, he's like, 'dude, we almost had a big problem'."
Poirier was asked what he thinks would have happened if the former opponents came face to face, responding:
"I don't know, bro. We just have such a long history. He's said some foul things. You ever watch Family Guy? You know when Peter and the chicken run into each other? They freaking go on this crazy fight, they're falling down hills, they're fighting for an hour. That's what would have happened."

Poirier added that the history between the two would have led to an altercation. They are no longer as cordial as they were after their second meeting in the octagon. 'The Diamond' believes if he made eye contact with McGregor, things would have turned sour.
The pair have shared the octagon three times with 'The Notorious' picking up a first-round TKO victory at UFC 178 back in September 2014. 'Diamond' returned the favor with a second-round TKO victory at UFC 257 and emerged victorious in their memorable trilogy bout at UFC 264.
Conor McGregor aims to end Dustin Poirier saga
The Irishman has long shared that he is open to returning to the octagon against Dustin Poirier.
Speaking to The Schmo, the former double champ replied to whether he would prefer to face 'The Diamond' or Nate Diaz again, responding:
"Both of them. Both. It's a must, for sure. The Dustin one's not settled. It's 1-1-1. And the Diaz one is also 1-1. So, two big blockbuster matches and I'd be excited to get them locked in."
