Daniel Cormier baffled by Jake Paul planning to enter 2028 Los Angeles Olympics: "How do people buy this sh*t?"

Former UFC two-division champion Daniel Cormier hasn't particularly favored Jake Paul's foray into boxing. Cormier even got into a heated exchange with Paul during the UFC 261 pay-per-view showcase before security rushed in to diffuse the situation.

Paul, who turned to professional boxing in January 2020, has carved out a thriving niche for himself in the sport, accumulating a 10-1 record in the process. He has picked six victories over former UFC fighters, an approach that has become a source of debate in his ascent. While Jake Paul's next fight will be against boxing icon Mike Tyson, he has also dished out challenges to UFC light heavyweight king Alex Pereira and combat sports star Conor McGregor for future fights.

Paul recently outlined his vision to compete in the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles in a bid to secure a gold medal for the United States in boxing. His reaction came in shortly after the U.S. boxing team’s underwhelming performance at the Paris Olympics, where they failed to win gold and secured only one medal. Speaking in a recent episode of the BS w/ Jake Paul podcast, he said:

"I'm going to enter the 2028 Olympics for boxing in Los Angeles. I'm sick and tired of waiting around and waiting for another gold for Team USA. I've definitely added another couple of years to my boxing career because of that - but Los Angeles, United States, sick as f**k. I'm going to do it, why not? 2028 Olympics, you heard it here first - gold medal, you're mine, brother."

However, Cormier debunked his claims in an Instagram post by MMA Fighting that highlighted Paul's comments. Baffled by 'The Problem Child's statement, Cormier said:

"Does he not understand he has to qualify? And he can’t be a pro fighter and be going backward to amateur. This is crazy. How do people buy this sh*t?"

Daniel Cormier previews Jake Paul's upcoming clash against Mike Tyson

Jake Paul was set to take on boxing icon Mike Tyson on July 20 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. However, Tyson was forced to pull out of the contest after suffering an ulcer flare-up on a plane.

Mike Perry served as the replacement for Tyson and lost the fight via TKO in the sixth round. It also came to light before the Perry encounter that the Paul vs. Tyson clash has been rescheduled and will take place on November 15, 2024.

Daniel Cormier previewed the fight in a recent interview with MMA Junkie, claiming that Tyson can knock out Paul. He said:

"I don't even know how to call this a fight. Honestly, I don't even know how it's a fight. It's a weird deal. But I think it'll be fun. I think if Mike Tyson can fight, and is free to just fight-fight the way he wants to, he's either gonna knock [Paul] out or he's gonna get caught with something that's gonna get him knocked out. But hell, I'm watching it, it'll be fun as long as it lasts."
