Conor McGregor explains why Alex Pereira "poses a lot of problems" for Jon Jones

xIt has been more than three years since Conor McGregor competed since entering the octagon when he broke his leg at UFC 264 in July 2021. After pulling out of a scheduled UFC 303 bout with Michael Chandler in June due to a toe injury, 'The Notorious' has shared that he is hoping to make his return soon.

McGregor recently discussed Alex Pereira's recent run and was quick to praise the light heavyweight champion. Speaking to The Schmo, the former double champ claimed that he could pose a threat to heavyweight champion Jon Jones, saying:

"I think [Pereira] poses a lot of problems for Jon, also. That's a dangerous style for Jon, but it's a decent one for him because he's not so big. Jon is new to the heavyweight division. Jon, he had a nice one against Ciryl Gane, but he's still untested at heavyweight and I'm sure in the back of his mind, he has that thought that some of these guys are really big."

McGregor continued:

"Alex is a nice one and it's still a dangerous one, though. At the core of it, it's probably even more dangerous. I'd be very excited to see that bout take place, for sure."

While a bout between Pereira and Jones would garner plenty of interest, it is unlikely to come to fruition. 'Bones' has shared that he expects his upcoming UFC 309 clash against Stipe Miocic to be the last bout of his legendary mixed martial arts career.

Conor McGregor believes Alex Pereira should move to heavyweight

Conor McGregor is among those who want to see Alex Pereira make the move to heavyweight. During his recent interview with The Schmo, the former double champ was asked about the possibility, responding:

"Yeah, I think that would be a viable next move for him. I think he had a difficult enough weight cut, if you could see now. In fairness, his coach came out [and] said he was maybe under the weather, he was on antibiotics. I've experienced something similar. It makes everything that much more difficult so maybe he is fine at light heavyweight."

McGregor added that either himself or Pereira needs to attempt to become the first three-division champion in UFC history. 'Poatan' shared that he plans to stay at light heavyweight following UFC 307, however, it is unclear if those plans will change.
