Dustin Poirier has spent the past several days hospitalized with a staph infection in his foot. The No.2-ranked lightweight recently provided fans with an update.
In a post shared to his Twitter account, Poirier stated:
"Antibiotics are working. Getting outta the hospital tomorrow morning!"

The news is encouraging after Brett Okamoto reported that Poirier was not initially responding to antibiotics. Following the No.2-ranked lightweight's announcement that he was hospitalized, the ESPN MMA reporter took to Twitter, stating:
"Some context on Dustin Poirier’s (@DustinPoirier) IG posts about being hospitalized … told me it’s staph, but he’s not responding to antibiotics over the last 24 hours. Undergoing further blood work now, hopefully get some answers today."

Poirier last entered the octagon less than a month ago at UFC 281 when he defeated Michael Chandler in the third round via a rear-naked choke. Poirier became the first mixed martial artist to defeat the No.5-ranked lightweight via submission. He also earned a bonus as the highly entertaining bout was named Fight of the Night.
Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor go back and forth on Twitter
Following the announcement of Dustin Poirier's illness, his long-time rival, Conor McGregor, capitalized on the opportunity to poke fun at the No.2-ranked lightweight. The response from the former double champ led to a back-and-forth in which the pair teased a tetralogy bout.
Poirier responded to McGregor's insult by accusing the No.14-ranked lightweight of using steroids while calling him out, stating:
"You done filming Roid House and ready to get slapped around again!?"
McGregor instantly replied, threatening to put Poirier in a coffin while also promoting his upcoming film, Road House, a remake of the 1989 film:
"Ye I’m in Amsterdam jacked like [Jean-Claude] van damn. You weren’t just hurt pal. You were scared hurt don’t forget it. I’m coming back to put you in a box. Full of it. I’m sending you off this earth. Permanent. Stay waiting for the road house as well pal you and the missus will love it."
The two fighters have met three times in the octagon. While McGregor won the first bout via TKO at UFC 178 in 2014, Poirier avenged the loss, twice, in 2021. He picked up TKO victories over the former double champ at UFC 257 and UFC 264, handing McGregor the first two knockout losses of his career.
