Amanda Lemos finished No.3-ranked strawweight contender Marina Rodriguez via a third-round TKO at UFC Vegas 64.

During her post-fight interview, Lemos asked UFC president Dana White to put her as a backup fighter for the UFC 281 strawweight title clash scheduled for next weekend:

"Hey Dana, I'm here already, put me as a backup for the title fight in New York." [as per Lemos' translator]

Lemos made the bold proposition to White after Daniel Cormier, who conducted the interview, asked her whether she thought she was next in line for a title shot at 115lbs.

Although getting a backup fighter spot for next weekend's event is a rather tall order, it's evident that the Brazilian has her sights locked on the strawweight title.

During the post-fight press conference for UFC Vegas 64, 'Amandinha' reiterated her hopes to fight for 115lbs gold:

"Surely, I should be the next one to line up. Go back home, rest for a week. Go back in the gym, just wait for that opportunity to be the next one for the title."

The 115-pounder also predicted that Zhang Weili will capture the title from Carla Esparza next week at UFC 281.

With the win over Rodriguez, Lemos is on a two-fight win streak. Her pro record currently stands at 13 wins against two losses and a draw.

Marina Rodriguez says that her fight with Amanda Lemos was stopped too early

In a statement released via Twitter after her TKO loss to Amanda Lemos, UFC strawweight Marina Rodriguez said that her fight against her compatriot was stopped too soon.

Rodriguez explained that as a professional athlete, she was ready to face a lot more adversity in the cage:

"You stopped too soon! As a professional, I'm there to face a lot more, that's what I'm in this game !!! It's part of the game, win, lose, in different situations! We continue in our way! Thank you all for the support and cheerleading!"

The UFC Vegas 64 loss marks Marina Rodriguez's second-ever career as well as UFC defeat. Her record currently stands at 16 wins, two losses and two draws. Rodriguez's only other loss came against reigning strawweight champion Carla Esparza at UFC on ESPN 14.
