Born and raised in Stockton, California, Nate Diaz is considered one of the realists of the game. He is the younger brother of MMA icon Nick Diaz. Bursting onto the scene as the winner of The Ultimate Fighter 5, Nate has certainly forwarded the Diaz legacy. The American professional mixed martial artist joined the UFC in 2006.
Starting as a lightweight, Diaz won 5 out of his first 5 bouts in the UFC. However, losing his next two out of three and then a controversial split decision loss to Gary Maynard prompted a change in the weight class. Right after his loss to Maynard, Diaz revealed wants to move up a weight class -
“I really don't think I'm going to stay at 155lbs,” he said. “I don't make enough money to have to drop this much weight so I'd like to fight at 170 and only go to [155] every once in a while.”
Nate has been in and out of the headlines throughout his career. His latest run came in 2019 when he beat Anthony Pettis at UFC 241 after a three-year-long layoff. He went on to fight Jorge Masvidal two months later for the BMF belt.
Masvidal won after a disputed doctor's stoppage following a cut over Diaz's right eye.
On September 10, 2022, at UFC 279, Nate Diaz faced Tony Ferguson in his final match, completing his contract with the UFC. Diaz won the bout via submission (guillotine choke).
