Has Jon Jones' DQ loss been overturned? UFC 295 promo video fuels "Dana White marketing" speculations

Jon Jones is widely considered to be the greatest mixed martial artist of all time. The UFC heavyweight champion has never been defeated in the octagon, as the only loss on his record came due to a disqualification against Matt Hamill in a bout that many believe should have been stopped.

'Bones' is set to defend his heavyweight title for the first time against Stipe Miocic at UFC 295 in a bout many believe could mark his final trip to the octagon. In the official trailer for the event, the promotion marketed Jones as an undefeated champion, which @BloodyElbow pointed out, tweeting:

"The UFC is marketing Jon Jones as undefeated. Is this Matt Hamill erasure?"

Check out Bloody Elbow's tweet below:

@aewkhvn suggested that the claim was due to UFC President Dana White's marketing tactics:

"Undefeated, never tooks steroids and other drugs, never lost a round: Dana White marketing"

@IshJitSu claimed what many mixed martial arts fans have:

"Doesn’t count"

@SICKYDOESMMA pointed out that the bout was stopped as Hamill dislocated his shoulder:

"The worst robbery in UFC history. Matt Hamill couldn’t continue due to a dislocated shoulder from a Jon Jones takedown. Worst robbery of all time no debate"

@delguercio21 claimed that Jones is undefeated, stating:

"He is undefeated. The hamill fight should have been stopped before the illegal elbow, and they stopped it and called it a dq after asking Hamill ( a deaf man) if he could continue, which obviously he did not respond to. Should’ve been overturned to a NC a long time ago"

@Tbuck1991 noted that most mixed martial arts fans have likely not seen the bout:

"So many new fans who didn’t see the fight lol"

Matt Hamill once claimed that he did not defeat Jon Jones

While the loss on Jon Jones' record has led to plenty of debate amongst fans, his opponent from the bout, Matt Hamill does not believe he defeated 'Bones'. In a statement released on his website following the bout, 'The Hammer' stated:

"He definitely didn’t lose this fight and I definitely didn’t win, but I guess the rules are there for a reason. It is what it is. I went into this fight feeling like my record was actually 9-1 so with this so called win I will now consider my record 9-2." [h/t Yahoo! Sports]

While UFC President Dana White has attempted to have the loss overturned with the Nevada State Athletic Commission, nothing has materialized on that front. It is unclear if the bout will ever be overturned, however, Jones is widely considered to be the greatest of all time, even with the loss.
