The highly anticipated Uttar Pradesh Kabaddi League (UPKL) 2024 commenced on July 11 at the Noida Indoor Stadium, Sarovar Portico. The inaugural edition of the tournament will see eight teams vying for the coveted title.
The league, organized by 1X Sports and the Uttar Pradesh Kabaddi Association, will feature 55 matches over two weeks, with the final showdown scheduled for July 25.
The eight participating teams - Awadh Ramdoot, Brij Stars, Ganga Kings of Mirzapur, JD Noida Ninjas, Kashi Kings, Lucknow Lions, Yamuna Yodhas, and Sangam Challengers - will compete in a round-robin format, facing each other twice in the group stage. The group stage will consist of 52 matches, with four matches being played each day. The top four teams in the points table will then advance to the semi-finals, with the winners of these matches competing in the final.
The UPKL 2024 auction, held on June 10, saw around 350-400 players being auctioned, following which every team finished with 15 players each. The league features a mix of talented players from Uttar Pradesh and other regions of India, including star players from the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL), such as Arjun Deshwal, Sahul Kumar, Nitin Panwar, and Abhishek Singh being among the biggest names.
Rahul Chaudhari, one of the legends of PKL and Indian kabaddi, has been appointed as the brand ambassador of the league, while Pardeep Narwal, fondly known as the Dubki King, is the brand ambassador for the Noida Ninjas team.
The UPKL 2024 promises to be an exciting and thrilling tournament, with some of the best kabaddi players in the country plying their trade.
