After securing a hat-trick of titles, the Patna Pirates were unable to find their mojo in the past five editions. The think tank failed to make a perfect combination, which led to the sudden decline in their results, including three group stage exits in the last five seasons.
Though they made it to the knockouts in two out of the last three seasons, they failed to cope with pressure in the crunch situations, ending as the runner-up in the eighth season and semi-finalists in the 10th edition.

The franchise made some interesting decisions by releasing their top raider Sachin Tanwar and star defender Krishan. However, they have retained their raiding duo Sandeep Kumar and Sudhakar M.
Their skipper Sachin Tanwar accumulated 184 points in the previous season, including 171 raid points and 13 tackle points. On the other hand, Krishan was Patna's best defender, amassing 78 tackle points. The duo played a pivotal role in propelling the side to the semi-finals.
Two retained raiders Sudhakar and Sandeep were also crucial for Patna in the previous edition. While Sudhakar accumulated a total of 105 points, Sandeep had 87 points under his name.
It would be interesting to watch if Patna Pirates uses the Final Bid Match option for Sachin and Krishan in the PKL 2024 Auction. Notably, the Final Bid Match (FBM) Card option allows franchises to buy back their released players by matching the final auction bid price for the player concerned.
At the PKL 2024 Auction, a total of 500+ players, including the 24 players from the two final teams of the Khelo India University Games 2024, will go under the hammer.
