In a thrilling turn of events at the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) 2024 auction, star raider Maninder Singh returned to the Bengal Warriorz for an impressive sum of ₹1.15 crore.

The raider, who has been a key figure for the Warriorz over the years, was initially on the verge of joining the Bengaluru Bulls after they won the bid for him. However, the Bengal Warriorz strategically utilized their Final Bid Match (FBM) card to retain their star player on the first day of the auction in Mumbai.

Maninder Singh’s return to Bengal Warriorz marks his sixth consecutive season with the franchise, a team that has become synonymous with his success in the PKL.

Expressing his delight at rejoining the Warriorz, Maninder told PKL:

"I am very happy to be back. I will look to perform even better than last season and Bengal Warriorz has always been a home to me. The team is like a family and I have played with them for 6 years, so I am very happy to be back."

Maninder’s association with the Bengal Warriorz has been nothing short of remarkable. He has been instrumental in the team’s success, including their historic PKL title win in 2019, which was the franchise's first-ever trophy. His consistent performances have made him a fan favorite, and his return to the team is expected to bolster Bengal’s prospects in the upcoming season.

The road ahead for Maninder Singh and Bengal Warriorz

Last season, the Bengal Warriorz narrowly missed out on a playoff spot, finishing seventh on the points table. Despite the team’s overall struggles, Maninder Singh continued to shine as one of the league’s top raiders.

He accumulated 197 raid points from 21 matches, averaging 9.38 raid points per game. His impressive stats included nine Super 10s and five Super Raids as well.

Surprisingly, the Bengal Warriorz had initially released Maninder Singh ahead of the auction, a move that raised several eyebrows. However, the franchise brought him back into the fold. The decision to use the FBM card displays the Warriorz's commitment to building a strong squad around their star raider.

Maninder’s experience and leadership will be crucial as the Bengal Warriorz aim to improve upon last season’s performance and secure a spot in the playoffs. With the PKL 2024 season fast approaching, Maninder will be determined to elevate his game and lead the Warriorz to greater heights.

His return not only strengthens the team’s raiding department but also brings a sense of familiarity that could prove vital in the long and challenging season ahead.

As the Bengal Warriorz prepare for the new season, the re-signing of Maninder Singh makes their intentions clear. With one of the league’s most prolific raiders back in their ranks, the Warriorz will be looking to make a strong push for the title, and Maninder’s role will undoubtedly be key to their success.
