Mumbai City FC are in advanced talks to sign Greek striker Nikolaos Karelis, according to IFTWC - Indian Football. The 32-year-old's contract with Greek club Panetolikos GFS, whom he joined in February 2021, expired on May 31, 2024.

Apart from his stint with Panetolikos GFS, he has also played for the likes of Brentford, Panathinaikos, and KRC Genk. Karelis has also represented his nation in 19 matches, scoring three goals.

Mumbai City FC have had an extremely busy transfer window so far

With Jorge Pereyra Diaz departing the club, the Islanders need to strengthen their attacking options heading into the new season. The Argentine forward was highly consistent in front of the goal during his two-year stay, scoring 27 goals and providing 10 assists in 53 appearances. Diaz was a vital cog in Mumbai City's 2022-23 ISL League Winners' Shield and 2023-24 ISL Cup Trophy victories.

Given his immense European football experience and proven credentials, it would be a great addition if Petr Kratky's men acquire the services of Nikolaos Karelis. Mumbai City FC have been extremely busy with their transfers so far. Despite the exit of several big names, including club captain Rahul Bheke, they have made some top domestic as well as overseas signings by roping in the likes of Jon Toral, Jeremy Manzorro, Brandon Fernandes, Jayesh Rane, TP Rehenesh, and Noufal PN.

Another great news is that Lallianzuala Chhangte, the 2022-23 ISL Golden Ball winner, has signed a contract extension that will keep him at Mumbai City FC until the end of the 2026-27 season. Chhangte is currently the club's all-time leading goalscorer with 29 strikes.

Despite a managerial change mid-season, Mumbai City came close to successfully defending their League Shield in the 10th edition of the ISL and even clinched the ISL Cup trophy.

They will hope to replicate their success in the upcoming season by further bolstering their already impressive lineup.
