Mumbai City FC have signed striker Daniel Lalhlimpuia on a one-year contract until the end of the 2024-25 season, the club officially confirmed on Monday, July 8. The 26-year-old's recent stint was with Punjab FC whom he joined in September 2022.

Apart from Punjab FC, he has also played for Odisha FC, Delhi Dynamos FC, Bengaluru FC, and Chennaiyin FC in his career so far. The Mizoram-based player won the 2015-16 I-League, the 2017 Federation Cup and the inaugural edition of the Indian Super Cup in 2018 with Bengaluru FC.

He was a part of the victorious Punjab FC squad that clinched the 2022-23 I-League, thereby becoming the first-ever club to gain promotion to the ISL. Last season, he featured in nine matches for them across all competitions. Apart from representing the India Under 17, 20 and 23 sides, he has also featured in three matches for the Blue Tigers.

Excited about his new challenge and the prospect of turning out for the Islanders, Daniel Lalhlimpuia stated that it's a dream come true for him. In a statement, he said:

"It's a dream come true for me to join Mumbai City FC. The club's environment is highly regarded, and I'm excited to train with the best players in the country. I can't wait to begin this new chapter of my life with Mumbai City and contribute in every way possible to help the team achieve its objectives for the upcoming season."

Despite taking over the reins mid-season from a highly successful former head coach Des Buckingham, Petr Kratky has done a phenomenal job of guiding Mumbai City FC to the 2023-24 ISL Cup Trophy triumph.

The team came close to successfully defending their ISL League Winners' Shield title before agonizingly losing the deciding game against Mohun Bagan Super Giant. Welcoming the latest addition, the elated gaffer heaped praise on the player:

"Daniel is a talented player who fits our playing style and is committed to working hard. We believe he will be a great addition to our attacking unit and can contribute to achieving our targets. We welcome Daniel to the club and look forward to working with him."

With some high-profile transfers already going their way, Mumbai City FC are all set for yet another exciting season which will be the first-ever full-fledged season for their gaffer Petr Kratky, who has already become the fans' favorite given his style of play.
