Mohun Bagan Super Giant have officially announced the signing of Indian goalkeeper Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem on a one-year deal. The 24-year-old's recent stint was with FC Goa, whom he joined in January 2021.

Apart from playing three games each at the 2023 Durand Cup and the 2024 Indian Super Cup, he also featured in 10 matches for the Gaurs throughout the 10th edition of the ISL. Dheeraj was a part of the victorious FC Goa squad that went on to clinch the Durand Cup in 2021.

The recent move is a homecoming for the Manipur-based custodian who spent two years at ATK (ATK Mohun Bagan) with whom he won the 2019-20 ISL trophy.

In Vishal Kaith, the 2022-23 ISL Golden Glove winner Mohun Bagan Super Giant already have a strong first-choice goalkeeper. Nevertheless, given his ISL experience, proven credentials and title-winning track record, Dheeraj Singh's signing would further strengthen their armour.

Mohun Bagan Super Giant had a remarkable 2023-24 season

The 2023-24 season was remarkable for Mohun Bagan Super Giant as they won two titles - the Durand Cup and the ISL League Winners' Shield. The Mariners also came close to successfully defending their ISL trophy but failed in the final hurdle, losing the 2023-24 ISL title decider at home against Mumbai City FC.

Despite a managerial change mid-season with Antonio Lopez Habas replacing Juan Ferrando at the helm, the Kolkata giants turned their fortunes around in the second half of the season, thereby almost achieving the ISL double. Meanwhile, ahead of the upcoming season, they have appointed the 2016 ISL-winning head coach Jose Molina as their new boss.

Mohun Bagan Super Giant will begin their Durand Cup title defense with the Group A fixture against Downtown Heroes FC at the iconic Salt Lake Stadium on Saturday, July 27. They will also be up against Indian Air Force FT before taking on arch-rivals East Bengal FC in a much-awaited repeat of last year's Durand Cup final in their final group encounter.
