Jamshedpur FC have officially announced the signing of attacking midfielder Javi Hernandez on Thursday, July 25. The 35-year-old's recent stint was with Bengaluru FC, whom he joined in June 2022.

An immensely experienced campaigner, Javi has played for several European clubs before entering the Indian football scene in 2019. Apart from Bengaluru FC, the Spaniard has also represented ATK, ATK Mohun Bagan and Odisha FC in the ISL.

"I'm delighted to join Jamshedpur FC" - Javi Hernandez

Javi Hernandez was a part of ATK's victorious 2019-20 squad that went on to clinch the ISL Cup Trophy. Also, during his two-year stay at Bengaluru FC, he won the 2022 Durand Cup title in addition to finishing the 2022-23 ISL as runners-up with the Blues. Last season, in the 21 matches he played for Bengaluru FC throughout the 10th edition of the ISL, Javi scored five goals.

He also found the back of the net once in the three games he appeared for his side at the 2024 Indian Super Cup. Given his experience of playing in Europe, Indian football familiarity and a title-winning track record, it would be a massive boost for Jamshedpur FC, who have already roped in several talented domestic and proven overseas players ahead of the new season.

Expressing his thoughts on joining Jamshedpur FC, an elated Javi Hernandez stated that he is committed to giving his all in every step he takes for the club. He said in a statement:

"I'm delighted to join Jamshedpur FC, a move that heralds an exciting new chapter in my Indian football journey. I'm deeply grateful for the trust placed in me by the club and Head Coach Khalid Jamil, and I'm eager to reciprocate that faith with my performances.
"I firmly believe I have a significant contribution to make to the team, and I'm committed to giving my all in every step I take for the club. Having experienced the electric atmosphere at the Furnace before, I'm thrilled to now play for the passionate fans of Jharkhand and make them proud with my efforts."

Welcoming the new signing, an equally excited Jamshedpur FC boss Khalid Jamil heaped praise on the player and even asserted that his exemplary behavior on and off the field makes him an ideal role model for the team's young Indian players. Khalid added:

"Javier Hernandez brings unparalleled experience to our team, and it's essential we utilize his expertise effectively. His familiarity with Indian football is a significant advantage. We need attacking experience and Javi's presence fills that gap perfectly. His exemplary behaviour on and off the field makes him an ideal role model for our young Indian players. This season is crucial for him, and I'm confident he'll rise to the occasion."

Jamshedpur FC will begin the upcoming season with their 2024 Durand Cup fixture against Assam Rifles FT at the JRD Tata Sports Complex on Sunday, July 28. Their group also comprises Chennaiyin FC and Indian Army FT.
