Return of IHF: Good news

Return of IHF is a good news for Indian hockey. Hockey India’s performance off the pitch has not been good (no telecast of tournaments), atleast we were able to see the games live during the tenure of KPS Gill’s IHF. Though there were few people (read: K Jyothikumaran) who had their personal ambitions which led to disbanding of IHF.

In past two years Hockey India has not done something which is good for Indian hockey. There are still fights among the members of the federation regarding power. New federation has not recognized few of the hockey associations and they are also not ready to accept the proof of their existence. Associations like Mumbai, Bhopal, Maharastra and Vidhrba were not not recognized by HI though they have been in existence for more than 50 years.

Also, IOA did not have any right to disband the IHF, but still they disbanded them citing the poor performance of the team. The court ruled that poor performance of the team in Olympic qualifiers was not because of the federation but due to poor performance by the team( you can download the judgment copy from the website of Delhi High Court). IFH and IWHF( Indian Women Hockey Federation) merged to form a unified national body IHC( Indian Hockey Confederation) which was approved by FIH in 2001. All this time FIH was with the IHC and supporting its decisions. FIH was only concerned with the organizing the World Cup on the scheduled time. FIH did not want IHC to be disbanded but IOA did not listen and disbanded IHC.

IHC and HI will now fight for the top spot to rule Indian Hockey. This can turn out to be a good news for the team. Both the camps will now try to out do each other to do things for hockey. IHF is ready to hold the nationals in two months time and also expected to hold Rangaswamy Cup and the Federation Cup.

While HI is still not able to hold the elections which will prove as a disadvantage to their camp and KPS Gill as questioned its authenticity.

For now its advantage IHF and advantage hockey
