The 2023 edition of the biennial Women's Asian Champions Trophy is set to begin on Friday, October 27. The nine-day field hockey tournament, which concludes on November 5, will take place in the Jaipal Singh Stadium in Ranchi, India. Six teams will participate in the event with a round-robin first stage determining the top four teams. Those teams will play the semifinals and the final.

This is the seventh edition of the tournament, with the first Women's Asian Champions Trophy taking place in 2010. South Korea won the trophy that year.

India won the 2016 tournament in Singapore when they defeated China 2-1 in the final. Other notable finishes for India have been a runners-up position in 2013, held in Japan, a third-place finish in 2010, held in South Korea, and a fourth-place finish in 2011 event, held in China.

The last edition, which was postponed by a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, saw India withdraw from the tournament after playing a solitary match due to the virus' effects. Japan went on to win the event, with South Korea coming up short in the final.

South Korea have by far been the most dominant team across all seven editions, winning the tournament thrice, being a finalist once and also securing a fourth-place finish.

Japan have won twice, while India have secured a solitary win. China have come close in multiple editions but have never been able to cross the finish line. Malaysia and Thailand, the other two regulars, have struggled to keep pace with their more successful neighbors and have yet to reach the final.

This year's event will see defending champions Japan, South Korea, China, hosts India, Malaysia and Thailand, battle it out for glory in a hot and humid Ranchi.
