Indian Womens Hockey : Mixed performance from the eves

Indian women’s hockey team who are in Germany to play 4 nation hockey tournament has had mixed performance in the first two games.

In the first game, the Indian team came back from 3-1 deficit to draw the game against number 4 ranked Germany 3-3 while in the second game the team lost to Australia 2-6. In the first game India pumped all the three goals in the second half to tie the game 3-3.

Hosts took the lead in 12 minute through a penalty corner and they scored again in 24th minute. In second half the Indian team pulled a goal back in 38th minute, but Germans again scored in 51st minute and made the increased the scoreline 3-1. India kept fighting and were successful in finding the second goal when Rani converted the only penalty corner the team got in the 63rd minute.As the game approached its end, India intensified attacks on the rival goal and skipper Surinder Kaur successfully found the equaliser.

But, in the second game Indian team lost to Australia 2-6. Australia who had earlier blanked Ireland ( the fourth team in the competition) 4-0, did not give ant chance to Indians and outplayed them. India was not able to show the spirited performance and lost the game heavily.

The Indians India earned seven penalty corners from which they converted only one while Australia got five.For Australia who led 3-1 at half time, striker Megan Rivers (20th, 22nd, 37th and 51st) struck four goals, including a hat-trick.Other Australian goal scorers were Nicole Arrold in 7th and Madonna Blyth in 49th .For India, Deepika Thakur scored in 18th and Saba Anjum 46th minute.

India will play their last league game against Ireland, who lost 1-3 to Germany.
