Jalandhar, Sept. 13 : 27th edition of the IndianOil Servo Surjit Hockey Tournament will be played here at local Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium, Burlton Park, from Oct 16 to 23, 2010.
According to Mr. Priyank Bharti, president of the Surjit Hockey Society, Jalandhar who is also the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar told that as many as 13 top teams including two foreign teams will take part in this 8 days hockey bonanza. The Air Asia, Kualalumpur (Malaysia and former runners up Javed Hockey Club, Gojra (Pakistan) will be the main attarction of this year’s tournament. Railways, Delhi, Namdhari-XI Sirsa, Punjab Police, Punjab & Sind Bank, Delhi & Punjab & Sind Bank Delhi. These teams have been selected on the recommendation of the Selection Committee comprising of Pargat Singh Olympian, Lakhwinder Pal Khaira, Amrik Singh Powar, Gurwinder Singh. The cash prize which is sponsored by Gold’s Gym will be enhanced, Mr. Bhati added.
According to Mr. Iqbal Singh Sandhu, SDM, Nakodar who is the Hony. Organizing Secretary of the tournament told that as in the past, this year also, the NRI Sports Promoters, Punjabi Folk Singers and the organization in the game sports will be honour for the outstanding performance in the Sports/punjabi culture. A Sub Committee to select these personalities have been formed under the chaimenship of Mr. L.R. Nayyaer, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax while Mr. Jagjit Singh Puri, Secy to Goct. Punjab, Mrs. Sarojini Gautam Sharda, Mr. Gurpret Singh Khaira (Both ADCs) , Mr. SPS Murar and Mr. Bhupinder swingh Makkar will be member of the sub Committee.
