Zach Johnson was the US Team Ryder Cup captain last year. Unfortunately, under his guidance, the team did not perform well and lost the biennial tournament in Rome by five points.

Although Johnson did not lift the Ryder Cup trophy as the team's captain, he was part of the winning team in 2016. He played in the Ryder Cup five times in his career prior to leading the team in 2023.

Johnson made his debut in 2006 and contributed one point to the team's score. His record in 2006 was 1-2-1. He missed the 2008 edition and returned in 2010.

Here are Zach Johnson's scores at the Ryder Cup over the years:

  • 2006 – 1-2-1
  • 2010 – 2-1
  • 2012 – 3-1
  • 2014 – 0-2-1
  • 2016 (win) – 2-1

Aside from playing in the Ryder Cup, Zach Johnson has represented America in several other golf events. He was part of the World Cup in 2005 and played for the US at the Presidents Cup four times. He made his debut at the Presidents Cup in 2007 and returned in 2009, 2013 and 2015. He was on the winning team all four times.

Johnson has been playing golf professionally since 1998 and has been on the PGA Tour since 2004. He has played in over 400 tournaments on the circuit in his career and has won 12 events.

Johnson has won a total of 26 professional events in his career, including two Majors. He has been awarded numerous accolades over the years for his accomplishments in the sport. He received the Nationwide Tour Money List Winner and Nationwide Tour Player of the Year awards in 2003 and the Payne Stewart Award in 2020.

"Arguably, some regrets" - Zach Johnson on losing the 2023 Ryder Cup

Zach Johnson was hopeful of winning the Ryder Cup in 2023. However, the US team struggled from the beginning of the tournament and ultimately lost the match by five points. The American team has not won on European soil since 1993.

A few weeks after the prestigious tournament, Johnson opened up about his team's performance in an interview with SI. The 2023 US Ryder Cup team captain admitted his regrets about their loss.

"I've got a lot of 20/20-hindsight things that I certainly think about. Arguably, some regrets. But I think again something of that magnitude, win or lose, you're going to have that, that's sports. And I think that's when you care, you're passionate about something, you're going to have those natural feelings," Johnson said.

The next edition of the Ryder Cup will take place in 2025 in the USA, and this time PGA Tour golfer Keegan Bradley will be leading the team. Notably, last year, Bradley was snubbed by Johnson and didn't make the Ryder Cup team.
