Reigning Masters champion Adam Scott holed five straight birdies early in his round at sodden Oak Hill to finish with a 5-under 65 that gave him a share of the lead with Jim Furyk Thursday (8 August) in the PGA Championship in New York USA.
Oak Hill Country Club in Pittsford, New York hosted some wonderful Golf on day one of the 2013 PGA Championship.
Putt of the day day belogned to Kohki Idoki who putted from off the 3rd green for a birdie.
One-time major winner Jim Furyk looked in great shape, firing 6 birdie’s on the way to an impressive 65, which was good enough for a tie of the lead after day one.
Rory McIlroy is tied with 13 others at 1-under par after carding a pleasing 69. His score would have been better had this attempt for a birdie on the 6th hole had trickled in.
World number one Tiger Woods played a marvellous approach on the 13th hole, but is six shots back going into day two after a frustrating 71.
Later, a rain delay of 71-minutes kept golfers off the course.
But after the weather cleared, perhaps the best approach of the day was played by Martin Kaymer, who holed out for an eagle on the 13th hole to reach 3-under par.
Adam Scott took the outright lead with a nice birdie effort on the 14th hole, which took him to six under, but Scott dropped a shot on 17 which means he will go into day two sharing the lead with Jim Furyk.
There were 35 rounds under par, compared with only a dozen rounds in the 60s when the PGA Championship was here 10 years ago.
