Tiger Woods' journey in the game of golf started when he was six months old. The California native went on to become one of the most prominent figures of the sport with numerous records under his belt - one of the most notable being his 82 wins on the PGA Tour (to tie the all-time record with Sam Snead).

On October 6, 28 years ago, Woods won his first tournament at the 1996 Las Vegas Invitational (now known as the Shriners Children's Open). He entered a playoff with Davis Love III. The event was held as a five-round tournament and marked Woods' only win in a 90-hole format.

1996 was Woods' rookie year on the PGA Tour. At 20 years old, he also carded in his worst opening round with a score of 82 that left him in 97th place after 18 holes. He went on to display great golf over the next four days and bagged a whopping $297,000 for defeating Davis Love III in the playoff. Following the match, Love told reporters (via Golf Monthly):

"As disappointed as I am, I'm that much happy for him. He's a great player and he's great for the Tour."
