Shane Lowry took the solo lead at The 2024 Open Championship. This Irishman is at eight under par with 12 holes of the third round yet to be played. Lowry is just two shots clear from Daniel Brown who is at six under par.

Despite missing the cut by five strokes, Rory McIlroy still wishes his fellow Ryder Cup teammate the best of luck as he attempts to earn Ireland another Major championship victory.

According to Bunkered Golf writer, Ben Parsons, here's what McIlroy had to say about his fellow Irishman:

"I can’t wait to watch this weekend. He [Shane Lowry] relishes these conditions. He gets more up for this than anything else. I’m looking forward to cheering him on and him hopefully getting his second [Claret] Jug. "

The Royal Troon's links golf course has proven to be a challenge for several of the world's best players. However, according to McIlroy, Shane Lowry thrives under Scotland's harsh winds and the par 71 course's pot bunkers. Having earned his first Major title at the 2019 edition of The Open Championship, Lowry is set to rewrite history as he is passionate to hail the prestigious Claret Jug trophy for the second time.

The 2019 Open Championship marked Lowry's second victory on the PGA Tour. After defeating Tommy Fleetwood by a whopping six strokes, he became the seventh player in the PGA Tour's history to win the event by a six stroke margin or more. That day, Lowry became the second player of Irish heritage to win a Major title.
