PGA Tour announces Adam Scott as chairman of Player Advisory Council

Sony Open in Hawaii - Round Three
Adam Scott is the PGA Tour Player Advisory Council chairman

Adam Scott is now officially the PGA Tour Player Advisory Council chairman. The tour announced his new role on Tuesday.

Scott had admitted that he had some interest in LIV Golf before accepting this role, interestingly enough via Golf Digest:

“Depending what your goals are in golf, I think [LIV Golf’s] schedule is very appealing. From that side of things, I would consider doing that, for sure. From a lifestyle side of things, yes.”

He added later:

“Well, when there’s only a proposed 14 events, let’s say, and you might pick to play some other events, there seems to be time for a legitimate offseason. I think that’s really missed on the PGA Tour from all aspects but certainly from the top players. I think we would all like to see a break, and a break where you’re not penalized for taking a break. I think that’s one of the big things.”

Ultimately, Scott didn't defect and he now has a significant role with the PGA Tour. It's unlikely he'll consider leaving now after being given this power.

Last month at the Sony Open, Scott said, via Golf Channel:

“We have the ability to put the people in [charge at the Tour] who should be able to do the job. I think it's getting to the point in our game where it's getting maybe easy to see that there needs to be some accountability for all of this stuff, all of a sudden across the game of golf."

He continued:

"I think over my career there has probably been less of that because there hasn't been a consequence for error, is the feeling as a player looking at the ecosystem of the game.”

He joins Peter Malnati, Rory McIlroy, and Webb Simpson on the current board. A fifth member will be appointed in place of Patrick Cantlay, who (like Scott) admitted there were benefits to LIV Golf, but has remained adamant that he's not joining.

Adam Scott to join Tiger Woods' TGL League with Rory McIlroy

Adam Scott is also poised to play a part in the Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy-led golf league that's in development. TGL will begin in 2024 and has been filling out its roster.

Scott is among those involved, which now includes:

  • Max Homa
  • Tiger Woods
  • Rory McIlroy
  • Billy Horschel
  • Matt Fitzpatrick
  • Justin Thomas
  • Jon Rahm
  • Collin Morikawa
  • Adam Scott
  • Justin Rose
  • Xander Schauffele

Scott said via Sports Illustrated:

“We never saw much ‘side-taking’ from Tiger during his career. That’s fair enough, he was a competitor and he was interested in what he was doing. Now, he’s showing his feelings on things. Creating something like TGL with Rory is just another example of how he is having an impact on the game. Certainly when Tiger goes in on something, it’s going to have an impact no matter what.”

It's safe to say that both Tiger Woods and Adam Scott will have big roles in the future of golf. With Woods starting the league, Scott has joined and with Scott, the new chairman of the PGA Tour Player Advisory Council.
