“Nobody wants to be that guy”: Matt Kuchar publicly apologises to PGA Tour and the media for delaying Wyndham Championship finish to Monday

Matt Kuchar added to the drama of the weather-plagued 2024 Wyndham Championship, the final event of the PGA Tour regular season. Despite being out of contention, Kuchar opted to finish his final round on Monday, August 12, further delaying the tournament's conclusion.

Kuchar had already hit his final tee shot on the 18th hole when he decided to stop his round due to darkness. He opted to complete the hole the next day, even though the tournament winner had already been determined. However, his playing partners, Chad Ramey and Max Greyserman, finished their rounds on Sunday itself.

The decision had left golf enthusiasts worldwide in splits. Kuchar has since apologized to fans, the PGA Tour, and his fellow competitors for causing a delay. Here's what he said:

"Again, it stinks to - nobody wants to be that guy that's showing up today, one person, one hole. Not even one hole, half a hole to putt. So apologies to the tournament, to everybody that had to come out. I know it stinks, I know the ramifications, I know it stinks. Certainly I apologize to force everybody to come out here."
