Will Davis Thompson be at The Open Championship 2024? John Deere Classic winner’s eligibility explored

Davis Thompson's victory at the John Deere Classic has exempted him from the Open Championship 2024. The fourth and final Major of the 2024 season will be held from July 18 to 21 at Royal Troon Golf Club in Troon, South Ayrshire, Scotland.

At the 2024 John Deere Classic, Thompson carded an 8-under 63 in the first round with eight birdies. He carded 4-under 67 to make the cut with a spectacular eagle, five birdies, and three bogeys. He scored the lowest score of 9-under 62 in the third round with nine birdies. He finished with 7-under 64 in the final round. After the round, he said (via ESPN):

"I'm just thankful it worked out. I got off to a great start today and was able to just kind of cruise on the back nine. Getting off to a good start was crucial, and I was just able to ride the momentum coming in."

Talking about the conditions in the final round at the TPC Deere Run, Thompson said:

"I just wanted to stay aggressive. I knew there would be low scores out there today because the wind kind of died down and the conditions were a little soft. So I knew I was going to have to go play well. Thankfully, I made a great putt on 1 and had a great up and down on 2 and kept the ball rolling," Thompson said.

Davis Thompson took home $1,440,000 of the $8 million prize money. The win exempted Thompson from the next three Majors which include the Open Championship 2024, 2025 Masters tournament, and the 2024 PGA Championship.

Thompson's win came in his 63rd career start, and he's also exempted from next year's The Sentry and the Players Championship.
