Adam Scott is sitting in 46th place in the FedEx standings and thus he'll be playing at the FedEx St. Jude Championship along with Tom Kim, who is in 43rd place, and Will Zalatoris, who is in 49th place. Now, before he tees up at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, he decided to change his irons from Muira custom blades to a mixed set.
When Adam Scott was asked about why he took his crucial decision before the Memphis match, he elaborated on how he felt the turf conditions in Scotland were different from Memphis and so they require different irons:
“The turf conditions in Scotland are very different than here, so kind of using the irons that work the best…It’s really just a bounce and sole thing for the grass conditions … I just wasn’t getting the strike and the spin numbers and everything on that links turf,” Scott said.
He continued, “So I used the (AS-1 Miura), which is a really great sole. It’s wide and very low bounce. And you get your strike in the right groove and get some good interaction with the turf. So that was the theory behind that” ( via PGA Tour).
The FedEx St. Jude Championship venue will have Zoysia grass on the greens. so to tackle the conditions, he's switched his irons:
“This set is definitely more favored for certainly Zoysia (grass) this week, but anything, even Bermuda, where it can be a bit fluffy…I had (the switch) pre-determined (heading into the week). I have the other set (of AS-1 Miura), but I was fairly confident that this would be correct,” Adam Scott said.
The FedEx St. Jude Championship at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee, starts this week and will have a field of 70 players.
