Who won the Wyndham Championship? Exploring top-20 leaderboard for PGA Tour regular-season finale

Aaron Rai won the Wyndham Championship, thus clinching his maiden PGA Tour title. Max Greyserman finished second while JJ Spaun and Riyo Hisatsune were tied for third position.

The PGA Tour regular season concluded with the Wyndham Championship, a tournament that was far from uneventful. It began on the wrong day thanks to a rainout on Thursday but still managed to conclude on Sunday.

That also happened to be the same day the second round officially ended. It was a thrilling weekend to conclude the season. Here's how it went.

After one of the most eventful days of the season, the Wyndham Championship finally came to a close. Here's how things stood:

  • T3: JJ Spaun, -15
  • T3: Ryo Hisatsune, -15

  • T7: Billy Horschel, -12
  • T7: Adam Svensson, -12

  • T12: Jacob Bridgeman, -11
  • T12: Davis Thompson, -11
  • T12: Matt Kuchar, -11

Luke Clanton was in contention for a while, finishing just outside the top three to earn the high amateur honors. Aaron Rai birdied the final hole to put a two-stroke gap between himself and Max Greyserman, who finished in second place. It marked the first PGA Tour victory in Rai's career.

Matt Kuchar came in needing a lot of FedEx Cup points. Beginning the day in a great spot, his third and fourth rounds were lackluster and he slipped down the leaderboard. He walked away during the 18th hole and didn't continue.

It was not just the final opportunity for some golfers to earn a win. The Wyndham was also the final chance for FedEx Cup points, meaning some players desperately needed to play well to make it into the St. Jude Playoffs next week.

Rain tried its best to derail these golfers, as Tropical Storm Debby wrecked the East Coast. The ones who made the cut and earned the points they needed did so in spite of extremely difficult circumstances.

Not only did two rounds occur on the final day, but a historical oddity did as well. The second round was delayed until early Sunday morning, which meant the cut was made just hours before a champion was crowned.

To close out the season, several other golfers had good weekends that should be noted:

  • Beau Hossler
  • Zach Johnson
  • Davis Riley
  • Brian Harman
  • Sungjae Im

The cut was made earlier this morning at four under par, which indicated that the field played pretty well despite the horrible weather. Those who missed the cut included Justin Rose, Shane Lowry, Nick Dunlap, Will Zalatoris, Robert MacIntyre, Jordan Spieth, and Min Woo Lee.
