Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy have been hard at work creating TGL, their new technology-based league. It has not yet begun thanks to infrastructure issues that delayed a January 2024 start date. The league will notably not function like regular golf tournaments in more ways than one. Their official X account just shared a brief look at the rules for fans to acquaint themselves ahead of next year's launch.

Instead of an 18-hole round, the match will be over 15 holes. These 15 holes will be split, not evenly, into two sessions. The first nine holes are the first session, mirroring the front nine of a regular golf round. The back portion, however, is only six more holes instead of nine.

The first nine holes are played as triples, so three members of a team will alternate shots. The opposing team will do the same. Each hole is worth one point, so a maximum of nine points can be earned by a team in the first session.

The second session switches the gameplay format. These holes will all be played in singles head-to-head. One player from one team will take on one player from the opposing team. Each player for each team from the first session gets two holes to try and win.

After all that is said and done, there should be a winner crowned since there is an odd number of holes. At worst, there can only be an 8-7 victory for one of the teams.

The league is supposed to commence in January, and there will be three events that month. The TGL opener is January 7, and then the other two will be on January 14 and 21 to conclude the month. The rest of the schedule will be announced after that.

Which are the teams for Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy's TGL?

As mentioned, each team will send three players to the "course" for each matchup. There are, however, four members on each team. One player will not be able to play each round. It will be up to the team to determine who that is.

Tiger Woods' team is made up of himself, Kevin Kisner, Max Homa, and Tom Kim. McIlroy's squad consists of Keegan Bradley, Hideki Matsuyama, Adam Scott, and the Irishman.
