Robert MacIntyre is playing the 2024 Open Championship on home soil, as the event is being held at Royal Troon Golf Club in Scotland. However, MacIntyre has not been able to give the fans the same kind of joy he gave them the week before when he won the Scottish Open.

In fact, MacIntyre was the author of one of the worst plays of the day, when he executed a swing so poorly that he barely touched the ball. The video of the moment was posted on X (formerly Twitter) by the NUCLR GOLF account and received more than 19,000 views in an hour.

The play occurred on the par-5, 598-yard 4th hole. Robert MacIntyre sent his tee shot 250 yards into the native area to the right of the fairway, and the ball landed in the middle of thick, knee-high, overgrown grass.

From there, Robert MacInty tried to get his ball back on the fairway using his pitch wedge, but his swing was completely out of range. The ball barely moved from its original position and stayed more than 330 yards from the pin.

The complications continued for Robert MacIntyre as he had to take a penalty stroke and drop the ball in a playable spot. From there, he managed to hit it, but with such bad luck that he sent it back into the native area, this time on the other side of the fairway.

MacIntyre tried to hit the fairway again with his fourth shot, but once again his ball landed in the native area on the right, but this time 79 yards from the pin. From there, MacIntyre managed to get the ball onto the green and two-putted for a triple bogey.

Many social media users immediately associated MacIntyre's play on the fourth hole with a similar one that occurred during the final round of the Genesis Scottish Open. On that occasion, the Scot received a free drop because his foot was on a sprinkler head.

A look at Robert MacIntyre's performance at the 2024 Open Championship

Robert MacIntyre played the first round of the 2024 Open Championship with two birdies and three bogeys, for a score of 1 over 72. With this result, he was tied for 31st.

However, during the second round, he has not been able to come close to the performance of the previous round. MacIntyre started with a triple bogey on hole 1, consecutive bogeys on 2 and 3 and another triple bogey on 4.

From there things started to look up for MacIntyre. Between holes 5 and 11 he made no more bogeys and made two birdies. At this point, his tournament score is 7 over par and tied for 87th place, 14 strokes behind leader Shane Lowry.

MacIntyre has played in the Open Championship four times. He has never missed the cut and has two top-10 finishes.
