“Uncle Sam putting in the work”: Scottie Scheffler applauds Sam Burns for recreating Lion King scene with his son

US golfers Scottie Scheffler and Sam Burns are competing at the ongoing St. Jude Championship of the FedEx Cup Playoffs at Memphis, Tennessee. Burns recently recreated a scene from 'Lion King' after he held Scheffler's baby boy, Bennett, at the tournament.

Scheffler was in the middle of his second round when Burns lifted Bennett and cheered the world no. 1 on. The adorable moment caught everyone's eye. Scheffler even took to social media to share the sweet picture of the duo. He wrote with a laughing emoji:

"Uncle Sam putting in the work."

Scheffler and Burns are placed tied for third place at the St. Jude Championship as of this writing, with a score of 10 under.

"It was a pretty special time at home" - Scottie Scheffler on baby's birth

Scottie Scheffler and wife, Meredith Scudder, welcomed their son, Bennett, in May. After arriving to compete at the PGA Championship days later, he shared his feelings with Golf Channel's Todd Lewis. He said:

"It’s a pretty amazing feeling. It was fun times at the Scheffler home, for sure."

"It was fairly challenging leaving the house this morning, but I’m here, I’m committed to playing this week. I’m excited to be out here competing, you know I told my old man when I was leaving, ‘I don’t want to leave, but I gotta leave.' It would have been challenging if I left Wednesday night, but it definitely was challenging leaving this morning."

Scheffler also spoke about the time spent at home after his baby's birth.

"At home, it was a nice time to reflect a little bit on my career so far and where my life has gone. I married my high school sweetheart and I always wanted to play professional golf, and now I'm here. I was sitting there with a newborn in my arms and the green jacket in the closet. It was a pretty special time I think at home."

Scottie Scheffler and Meredith Scudder got married in 2020 after four years of being in a long-distance relationship while both of them studied at their respective colleges.

Scottie Scheffler and Sam Burns' friendship

US golfers Scottie Scheffler and Sam Burns are very close buddies. While their display of friendship and solidarity was quite evident at the St. Jude Championship, the two golfers go long back.

They have been close friends since their teenage years and have played golf with and against each other over the years, including at the Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup. Scheffler and Burns are also pickleball partners and have shared rooms while on the road.

Reportedly, what built the foundation of this friendship was their faith in their religion. The golfers have had barbecue nights together at the PGA Tour's Bible Study. They have also given each other pep talks, making sure the other stayed grounded. Scottie Scheffler once said:

"If my head actually gets too big, he will be the first to say, ‘You’re being a real jackwagon."

In fact, reportedly the one thing Scheffler hated to eat was chickpea pasta. Despite his wife, Meredith Scudder's, attempts, he would never taste the dish. However, one day, he texted her saying he had tried the dish. She thought to herself about the incident:

"Who is this saint that’s getting my husband to eat chickpea pasta?"

Turns out it was Sam Burns' wife Caroline Campbell who had made the dish. Soon, even the players' wives became close friends. Sam Burns and Caroline Campbell also welcomed their son, Bear, in May 2024.
