The TGL league headed by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy continues to move toward its opening day, which is scheduled for early January 2025. This Wednesday, October 9, the league unveiled a commercial agreement to provide air transportation for its players.
Luxury private jet company ONEflight will be the official private aviation partner of the TGL. The news was announced on both the league's official website and the company's website.
As part of the official announcement, ONEflight CEO and founder Ferren Rajput said:
"TGL presented by SoFi is redefining golf through its use of technology. That approach aligns with ONEflight’s pioneering approach to private aviation as the fastest-growing market leader developing and implementing technology solutions for the luxury travel industry."
On behalf of the TGL, Jason Langwell, Chief Revenue Officer of TMRW Sports (the league's management company), had this to say:
"As we approach TGL presented by SoFi’s launch this January, the addition of world-class partners like ONEflight is vital to building an efficient logistical plan for our players... ONEflight will have our players onsite for their teams’ matches by providing efficient travel solutions.”
ONEflight has a long history with golf as a sponsor of PGA Tour events The American Express and the Procore Championship. It also sponsors players such as Akshay Bhatia, Sahith Theegala, Adam Schenk, Denny McCarthy, and Patrick Rodgers.
Other TGL news as opening day draws closer
The Sports Business Journal reported on Wednesday that the opening day of the newly established league will be January 7, 2025. Two days earlier, the Sentry, the first tournament of the season on the PGA Tour, will conclude.
This means that the first collaboration between ONEflight and the league will be the transfer of players between Hawaii, home of the Sentry, and Florida, home of the TGL.
The report also indicates that the new league will play on Tuesdays for the first few weeks of the season to make it easier to transfer players. This is due to the fact that the PGA Tour will be playing in Hawaii and on the West Coast during this time.
After that, when the circuit moves to Florida, the league will begin playing on Mondays and is expected to remain on that day through the end of the season.
According to the report, the new league, led by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, plans to expand its venues to different parts of the country by building facilities similar to the SoFi Center, which will be its headquarters in Florida. This expansion would eliminate excessive travel and allow for better scheduling.
The league will feature six teams of four players each competing on a virtual course over 15 rounds (one round per week). The event will be broadcast on ESPN and will also feature live spectator viewing.
