Spanish golfer jumps over 200 spots after beating Jon Rahm at the Open de Espana 2024

Spanish golfer Angel Hidalgo won the Open de Espana 2024. The 26-year-old from Spain defeated Jon Rahm in the playoffs at the recently concluded DP World Tour event at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid in Madrid, Spain.

After the win, Hidalgo jumped 236 spots in the Official World Golf Rankings from 398th to 162nd. This is his best OWGR rank after he turned professional in 2018. He was ranked 205th after being tied for fifth at the Joborg Open at Sunshine Tour in 2021.

Owing to the latest jump, the Spanish golfer surpassed the likes of Louis Oosthuizen (199th), Phil Mickelson (282nd) and Carlos Ortiz (286th), among others. The Spaniard secured a €494,861.54 share of the tournament's €3,250,000 million prize purse.

Additionally, Angel Hidalgo received 835 Race to Dubai points. He jumped from 70 spots to 18th in the Race to Dubai standings. The win at the Open de Espana 2024 was Hidalgo's first DP World Tour victory in what was his 80th career start.

Jon Rahm, Sean Crocker, Tommy Fleetwood and David Puig also saw their rankings improve. Rahm climbed from 15th to 13th following a runner-up finish at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid while Crocker moved up from 249th to 210th after a T3 finish.

Fleetwood jumped from 12th to 11th and Puig jumped from 148th to 124th after tying for third.
