The first two rounds of the Shriners Children's Open have been postponed. The latest postponement, on Friday, October 18, was due to high winds. Additionally, fan attendance will not be allowed at the TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas.

This was announced by the X (formerly Twitter) account PGA Tour Communications, which shared a press release from the PGA Tour Board of Directors that reads as follows:

"Second-round play at the Shriners Children’s Open began al 10:55 a.m, PT following a four-hour delay due to high winds. Out of an abundance of caution for spectator safety, gates to the Shriners Children’s Open are closed to all spectators on Friday, October 18 until further notice."
"General admission and hospitality tickets for Friday will be honored for Saturday at TPC Summerlin."

The Shriners Children's Open was unable to complete the first round on Thursday due to darkness. The new postponement announced on Friday now makes it even more difficult to complete the event on time.

According to the PGA Tour News Service, wind gusts are expected to reach between 40 and 45 MPH on Friday at TP Summerlin, the home of the Shriners Children's Open. However, there is some relief in sight, as gusts are predicted to subside to 20-25 MPH after lunch.

The trend toward lighter winds is expected to continue on Saturday. Gusts during the third round are forecast to be between 10 and 15 MPH.

Highlights from the 2024 Shriners Children's Open

Taylor Pendrith's 10-under 61 in the first round is one of the most remarkable things to have occured so far at the 2024 Shriners Children's Open. Taylor carded 10 birdies without a bogey to match his PGA Tour career low score.

Joel Dahmen was penalized four strokes during the first round for carrying an extra club in his bag. Dahmen self-reported the penalty, which ultimately led to him finishing the day 5-over par. After his performance, Dahmen had this to say (via ASAP Sports):

"I'd like it blame Geno [Bonalie, Dahmen's caddie]. That would be the easy thing to do. It's not his fault either. I played Tuesday and Wednesday out here. We didn't see it in there."
"It was an extra 4-iron, so I had two 4-irons in the bag. Why, I don't know. I don't know how it got there. It sucks," he added.

The 36-year-old then decided to withdraw from the tournament.

Pendrith maintains the lead at TPC Summerlin as the second round gets underway. Three players are tied for second place at 8 under par. Defending champion Tom Kim is currently at even par on the 10th hole of the second round. Kim is tied for 87th and is two shots behind the cut line. Last week's surprise winner, PGA Tour rookie Matt McCarty, is also in danger of missing the cut. He is 1 over par going into the 10th hole of the second round.
