Shane Lowry realizes ‘unachievable’ childhood dream at the 2024 Paris Olympics

The 2024 season has been decent until now for Shane Lowry. Though Lowry hasn't won an event on the PGA Tour yet, his last couple of outings have seen him finish in the top 10. While he finished T9 at the Travelers Championship last month, he finished in 6th place at the recently concluded Open Championship.

This good form is something Shane Lowry would look to carry into the 2024 Paris Olympics. However, even before the 37-year-old plays at the Olympics, he has achieved a 'huge honor' that to him appeared to be too distant for a dream. That achievement is Lowry being chosen as one of the flag bearers for Ireland at the Paris Olympics.

In a video uploaded on the social media handle of Team Ireland, Lowry said:

"It’s a huge honour[sic] for me and my family. You know, anybody that knows me knows how patriotic I am, and how much I love Ireland, and how much I love my country. So something like I am not sure you would even dream about as a kid because it's so far out there that is sometimes not achievable. But to get to do something like that is a huge honour[sic] for me."

At the Paris Olympics, Lowry will be Team Ireland's flag bearer along with high-hurdles specialist Sarah Lavin. This will be Lowry's second appearance at the Olympics after finishing T22 in Tokyo.
