Fans were critical of Matt Kuchar's decision to play the first stroke on the final hole of the 2024 Wyndham Championship on Monday. The PGA Tour event's final round took place on Sunday, August 11.

Due to increasing darkness, Kuchar, Max Greyserman, and Chad Ramey were given the option to either complete their round on Sunday or finish on Monday. As the group had already taken their first shots, Greyserman and Ramey decided to continue and completed their rounds on Sunday. At the same time, Matt Kuchar opted to finish his round on Monday.

Kuchar later explained his decision in an interview with Golf Channel's Todd Lewis. He said he wanted to set an example for Greyserman by playing the final hole on Monday. According to Kuchar, play should have been stopped on the 16th hole.

Greyserman was in contention for the victory but made a double bogey on the 16th. He ultimately finished in solo second place with a score of 16-under par, missing the title by two strokes.

Golf analyst Jason Sobel shared Kuchar's reasoning on social media, writing:

"On Golf Channel, @ToddLewisGC reports that he spoke with Matt Kuchar, who told officials he was done before Aaron Rai had finished. "I was trying to set an example for Max. We were so far past when we should've stopped play. ... By me not playing, I thought it might show Max he's got an important shot to hit." Still seems like a strange way to help a playing partner, especially since that player wound up finishing anyway."

Following this, fans in the replies criticized Kuchar's decsion.

One fan had this to say about Kuchar:

"Another reminder that Kuchar is the most self entitled a** hat out there," a fan wrote.
"Max is a big boy Kuch," another fan wrote.

There were more fans who were not supportive of Kuchar's decision and expressed their opinions about it:

"That’s the most BS excuse I’ve ever heard," a fan commented.
"Looks like Kuchar was just trying to set an example but ended up making things more complicated," another fan opined.
