Shane Lowry was on the top of the leaderboard after the first and second rounds at The Open Championship 2024. However, the third didn't go as Lowry would have liked.

After scoring 66 and 69, Lowry scored 77 in the third round. He finished in the sixth position after carding 68 in the final round of the final Major of the year at Royal Troon in Scotland. In the post-tournament press conference, Lowry was asked about his mindset going into the final round after a disappointing third. He said (via ASAP Sports):

"It was pretty hard. It was a tough evening yesterday evening, sat around the club here for a while, went home pretty late. Had some dinner, had some good chats with the people that are in my house."
"I just wanted to go out and give myself a chance today. I promised Neil that I would go out -- we had a great chat last night. I promised Neil I'd do one thing and go out and fight for every shot, and that's what I did today. Unfortunately, it's not good enough, and it's very disappointing. There's no two ways about it," he added.

Lowry acknowledged that he had a good chance of winning The Open Championship and that it will hurt for a few days. He won $611,000 for finishing sixth in the tournament. He also received 275 FedExCup points.

Xander Schuffele won The Open and took home a giant share of $3.1 million from the total prize money of $17 million. He received 750 FedExCup points and now trails Scheffler by 1,936 points.

Shane Lowry will play in the men's competition at the upcoming Paris Olympics. It will be held at Le Golf National in Guyancourt, France from August 1st to 4th.
