Ryder Cup captain for Team Europe Luke Donald has praised Robert MacIntyre ahead of the Open Championship. The 152nd edition of the tournament will begin in a few hours at Royal Troon in South Ayrshire, Scotland.

Luke Donald praised PGA Tour winner MacIntyre for his recent performances. MacIntyre recently won the Genesis Scottish Open at the Renaissance Club. The Scottish golfer also won the RBC Canadian Open in June. Donald said (via "The Scotsman"):

"It's been extremely special to win two national opens and last week, with all the pressure with him being open about that being the one he wanted to win, to go and perform after the disappointment of last year, that shows a lot of grit and determination."

MacIntyre lost the 2023 Genesis Scottish Open by one stroke to Rory Mcllroy. Luke Donald said that in the 2023 Ryder Cup, MacIntyre displayed his ability to handle pressure, and the tournament boosted his confidence.

Luke Donald was the captain of Team Europe that won the 2023 Ryder Cup by 16.5-11.5. Donald said that the learnings from the 2023 Ryder Cup were useful in clutch moments when he had to hole the putts in Canada and Scotland.

Luke Donald further said:

"I would hope the Ryder Cup helped in his journey and he can continue this form and keep going from strength to strength as he's showing he is one of the best in the world right now."

Robert MacIntyre has had four appearances at the Open Championship. He has made cuts in all four of them with two top-10 finishes and with his best performance in 2021 at Royal St George's.

Luke Donald hopes to see a European and a member of his Team Europe win the 2024 Open Championship

The five-time PGA Tour winner Luke Donald further said that he wants a European or a member of Team Europe he captained in Rome to win at Royal Troon. In 2024, the three Majors have all been won by Americans.

Scottie Scheffler started with the 2024 Masters tournament. The PGA Championship was won by Xander Schauffele and the US Open 2024 was clinched by LIV Golfer Bryson DeChambeau.

Luke Donald said (via "The Scotsman"):

"It hasn't been held, all four majors by the US since 1982 so it's unusual and it certainly could happen this year. As Ryder Cup captain, I would love to see a European and see one of the guys I captained in Rome win it. Any time we have something positive and good happening with the European guys it is a positive in my book."

The 2023 Open Championship was won by Brian Harman. This year, the winner of the tournament will take away $3.1 million of the total $17 million doled out to the field.
