Robert MacIntyre opened up about the British tennis legend Andy Murray. Both of them recently played together at the 2024 BMW PGA Championship Pro-Am event on Wednesday, September 18.

Following the Pro-Am event, MacIntyre attended a press conference where he was asked about the tennis star. The Scottish golfer, who is gearing up for this week's event, was candid in his reply and praised Murray, calling him a "sporting idol" for many people. He said (via Sky Sports):

"I was very impressed with his game. It was like a dream come true for me, a sporting idol of mine... a special, special day. If I achieve half of what he achieved in his sport, then I'll have overachieved to be honest with you. The guy is a sporting idol of many, many Scottish people."

Andy Murray also shared his experience of playing golf and said (via Sky Sports):

"I couldn't really feel my arms and legs. I was feeling it. But it got better as the round went on. It's a different sort of nerves, because you are comfortable in the tennis environment. I'm not thinking I'm going to walk out on the tennis court and forget how to hit the ball. Here, there's people standing five metres away from where I'm driving, and I'm like, 'I'm useless at this game'."

Notably, the Pro-Am event of the BMW PGA Championship featured a star-studded field of renowned sports figures and actors. Former Welsh footballer Gareth Bale competed in the tournament alongside Hollywood actor Tom Holland and other top-ranked golfers in the world, including Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood. After the Pro-Am, the professional golfers will head for the main tournament, starting Thursday, September 19.

"I've achieved things that I've dreamed of"- Robert MacIntyre on his successful golf season in 2024

MacIntyre has had a successful season on the PGA Tour and European Tour in 2024. He won two events this year and has also recorded some impressive finishes, including six finishes in the top 10 on the PGA Tour.

He won the 2024 RBC Canadian Open and then clinched the title at the Genesis Scottish Open, a co-sanctioned event of the PGA Tour and European Tour.

During a press conference for the 2024 BMW PGA Championship, MacIntyre opened up about his performances this year.

"I think I knew I was always good enough. I was just proving it to myself, and there was obviously bumps in the road along the way but it's never smooth in the game of golf. I've achieved things that I've dreamed of achieving as a kid, and I've still got more dreams I want to achieve, and I'm only 28. So there's plenty of time to achieve them. Yeah, just this year is just a building block," he said (via ASAP Sports).

MacIntyre will tee off at the 2024 BMW PGA Championship on Thursday, September 19, at 3:55 a.m. ET (8:55 a.m. BST) in a group with Jesper Svensson and Shane Lowry.
