Robert MacIntyre's celebration after winning the Genesis Scottish Open had as much impact on the golf world as the victory itself. MacIntyre is the first Scot to win the Scottish Open in 25 years, so his victory was met with widespread celebration.
Robert MacIntyre was scheduled to give a press conference at The Open Championship venue last Monday, but it was postponed until Wednesday, July 17. During the briefing, a reporter asked him to rate his celebration on a scale of 1 to 10, and MacIntyre responded as follows:
"10. I'm not a big drinker, but when you get moments like that, that's a childhood dream, and a lifetime goal, and you've got family and friends there that have backed you since you were a young kid, I think it was quite right to go absolutely wild, and I think we've done a good job of that."
Robert MacIntyre won the Genesis Scottish Open with a score of 18-under, one stroke ahead of Adam Scott. MacIntyre spectacularly overturned a three-stroke deficit in the final round, eagling the 16th hole for a share of the lead and birdieing the 18th for the title.
It was the first time a Scot had won the Scottish Open since Colin Montgomerie in 1999. Robert MacIntyre is also only the third Scot to win the National Open, the first being Jimmy Adams in 1936, during the second stage of the event.

Robert MacIntyre devoted much of his press briefing to praising the fans who follow him in Scotland. According to MacIntyre, this has always been a feature since he began his DP World Tour career in 2019.
MacIntyre tends to have good finishes when he plays in Scotland. In 2023, he finished second at the Genesis Scottish Open, the same event he just won last weekend.
He also played in Scotland in one of his four previous Open Championship appearances, the 2022 event at St Andrews. He tied for 34th at 7 under.
MacIntyre will again be playing the fourth Major of the season as a local in 2024. The venue, Royal Troon Golf Club, is less than 130 miles from Oban, where the player was born and raised. It is also less than 90 miles from the Renaissance Club, where he won the Scottish Open last week.
MacIntyre's Open Championship career includes four starts. He has never missed the cut and has two top-10 finishes. His best finish came in his debut (2019) when he tied for sixth.
MacIntyre is in his rookie season on the PGA Tour. During the last six weeks, he has earned his first two victories (RBC Canadian Open and Genesis Scottish Open).
