Tiger Woods announced this Friday, October 11, the opening of a retail shopping experience for his Sun Day Red brand at the legendary Pebble Beach Golf Links in California. It is the first physical store for the brand, which was launched by Woods and TaylorMade last February.

This new step in the brand's evolution has sparked mixed reactions from fans on social media. Most have alluded to the high prices of the items Sun Day Red sells, while others have highlighted their quality.

A user on X (formerly Twitter) posted the following:

"Won't help. Terrible."

Another fan said the following:

"A retail rip off experience"

Let's take a look at some other reactions on X:

"I don’t know a single person who as purchased a single Sun Day Red item," one fan posted.
"That looks expensive," another user wrote.
"Cheapest polo is $130. Grow the game," another fan wrote.
"I have ordered quite a bit of his brand. Love the quality and fitment," another user posted.

Tiger Woods launched Sun Day Red backed by TaylorMade in February 2024. The timing was the week of the Genesis Invitational, an event hosted by Woods and held at Riviera Country Club, also in California.

Sun Day Red markets luxury golf apparel with a variety of designs. The brand has four collections, Logo, Weather, Camo and Summer Soft.

The story of Tiger Woods and Pebble Beach Golf Links

It's no coincidence that Tiger Woods chose Pebble Beach Golf Links to host the first retail shopping experience for his Sun Day Red brand. Pebble Beach was one of the main venues for his remarkable 2000 season, when he won twice, including a record that still stands today.

In 2000, Tiger Woods visited Pebble Beach for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and won the event with a score of 15-under. He returned five months later to win his first US Open title.

His performance in that edition of the US Open was historic. His margin of victory (15 strokes over Ernie Els and Miguel Angel Jimenez) remains a record for the event.

Tiger Woods would finish the 2000 season with nine PGA Tour victories, including three major championships.

In all, Woods has played in 10 official tournaments at Pebble Beach, three editions of the US Open and seven of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. He has never missed the cut while playing the course, although he withdrew in 1998.

Woods returned for the US Open in 2010, when he finished fourth with a score of 3-over, three strokes behind Graeme McDowell. In the 2019 edition, also held at Pebble Beach, he finished 21st with a score of 2-under, 11 strokes behind champion Gary Woodland.

As for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, Woods has played in seven editions, with one victory (2000), one runner-up finish (1997) and three other top-15 finishes.
