Brian Harman praised the team format golf tournament in a recent podcast episode. While discussing the Presidents Cup, Harman expressed his inclination towards team golf formats and said he felt comfortable playing in them.
Harman became a captain's pick for the upcoming team event and is looking forward to making his debut in the tournament. During the podcast, a host asked him how team golf events affect his game. In response, Harman acknowledged that team tournaments tend to bring out his best game.
Speaking about the team event, Harman said (via Fore Play podcast on Spotify):
"I wish I could tap into that more often in individual golf. This match play and team golf, like, always seems to bring out, at least for me, it always seems to bring my best game out," he said.
"I don't know what it— I don't know what it is. I don't know if it's just like you have to play well, especially in alternate shot, like knowing you have to play well, or, you know, it just sort of puts you in that hyperfocus, and I don't know, it feels comfortable. The team stuff always has just felt really comfortable, like I just really enjoy doing it," Harman added. (at 1:18:00)
Notably, the USA team and the International team will compete in the Presidents Cup later this month. Both teams feature 12 players, including six automatic qualifiers and six captain's picks.
For the U.S. side, Jim Furyk will lead the team, comprising Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa, Patrick Cantlay, Sahith Theegala, Keegan Bradley, Sam Burns, Tony Finau, Russell Henley, Wyndham Clark and Max Homa, along with Harman.
Meanwhile, Mike Weir captains the International team, which includes Hideki Matsuyama, Sungjae Im, Adam Scott, Tom Kim, Jason Day, Byeong Hun An, Christiaan Bezuidenhout, Corey Conners, Mackenzie Hughes, Si Woo Kim, Min Woo Lee, and Taylor Pendrith.
How has Brian Harman performed in 2024?
Harman has fared well in the 2024 PGA Tour season. He has not competed in any team events this season and has only played in individual tournaments. The 2023 Open Championship winner competed in 22 tournaments, making the cut in 20 and missing two.
He was close to a victory at The Players Championship but ultimately secured second place, his best finish of the season.
Harman has, however, had three top-10 finishes and earned $5,138,310 from his PGA Tour outings. He last competed at the BMW Championship, finishing in 25th place after posting rounds of 72, 69, 71, and 73.
The 37-year-old, however, failed to qualify for the Tour Championship as he finished outside the top 30 in the FedEx Cup standings following the BMW Championship. He will next tee off at the 2024 Presidents Cup.
